The Gallery

Morning mom making breakfast
two eggs over easy
2 sausage links
two mocha mugs
hot sauce, ketchup
today is gallery opening
free cheese and wine
i love to eat
sometimes you don’t understand
it’s deeper than you think
sometimes
even the gallery design
elevator and handles on the doors
cast iron, red brick, marble, and lace
highly reflective reversable images
the stairs a loop
photographers and chefs
the poet
all arive early
even the sometimes
you don’t understand
sometimes
it’s deeper than you think

4 a.m
I’ve seen it all
every ding
dong
bell
whistle
ufo, easter bunny, sasquatch, santa
flim, flam, hustle, and scam
(all at once i might add)
i put them in a doggybag to go
but i never seen THIS coming
this disorder
not this needle
torture
spoon, dirty room
not last night or, this morning
hourly rate motel
at 4 a.m that’s where i am

An Ode to Joheved

She has Bordeaux
in her veins and the sultry voice
of peasants in song A master of acidity and sugar,
she buttons cotton lace
in medieval fare She knows the high priestess
and her moons,
the pulse and grip
of fire over Talmudic words
and the herbs to soothe She dons sprite slippers
over moors and fens And in her home
amid the aroma of sage,
wormwood and lavender,
the mirage appears From the vineyard
to the cellar,
the bees pollinate
everything Joheved
has ever touched.
