Bedroom Ghost

undigested meat as
Dickens wrote

it might have been
just plain old
imagination at work

when I awoke
in the middle of the
night there it was

black hulk, black ghost
perhaps the grim reaper
or a dead priest in his cassock

it was there alright
a round faceless head
body and arms

a shroud floating
out of the bedroom
as I rose to look

floated away, dissipated
evil or good I could not
tell as it disappeared

Art Won’t Be Enough

give my pen to the architect
hand me a shovel
my meat may be more useful
than my mind

give my knife to the hunter
may there be nothing to defend

give my repose to the wind
there is work to do

give my ideas to the collective
let the group decide

give my youth to the young
all elders to parent

give my poems to the fire
let us warm by these energies together
